The WorkTango platform has multiple measures in place to protect employee confidentiality when viewing survey results.

Confidentiality Threshold

The first measure is a Confidentiality Threshold. The anonymity threshold is the minimum number of responses each segment of data needs in order to reveal survey results.

WorkTango's default threshold is 5. This means that if a user wants to filter their results by a specific group (ex. Department --> Sales) and there are not at least 5 responses within that group, the data will be hidden. When filtering, any groups that do not meet the anonymity threshold will be greyed out and unavailable to filter.

All Anonymized Column

As extra measure WorkTango has put in place is an algorithm that prevents users from being able to backwards calculate hidden responses.

Our platform not only hides groups that don't meet the anonymity threshold, but also hides the next smallest group. It will continue hiding groups until the response rates of all hidden groups meets that of the anonymity threshold. The results from the hidden groups are then combined into the "All Anonymized" column. This allows you to still get insight into the combined scores, without compromising employee confidentiality.


Since both Executive and Support departments have less than 5 responses in the above image, they get grouped together and their scores are show combined under the All Anonymized column


In this case, you'll notice that the Finance group, despite having 5 responses, is hidden. This is because the combined response rate of Executive and Support does not meet 5. Therefore, the next smallest group will be hidden. Together, the group's combined response rate is 8 and are not shown under the "All Anonymized" column.
